One of my passions as both a biologist and a science writer is the importance of natural history collections and the activity of collecting. Museums and herbaria (dried plant collections) are a crucial resource in understanding our world’s biodiversity and stemming its loss. These resources are often neglected or underfunded because they are thought of as being obsolete in our molecular age. On the contrary… new and ever more varied uses are being devised for these priceless specimens every year. Below is a selection of articles I wrote this year covering news and innovations in natural history and collections.
